news

Valley ViewThe Powys Rural Support Network (PRSN) was established in April 2001 in response to the Foot and Mouth (FMD) crisis. The intention was that it should combat the adverse impact that FMD was inflicting on the economic, social and personal lives of rural people.

Its charitable object is

"The relief of sickness and distress in Powys in particular but not exclusively, through the provision of charitable support, advice and advocacy service".

It tries to support rural people in Powys by:

  • Providing a helpline that offers a listening ear, information, help with specific problems or referral to another service when it is agreed to be more appropriate;

  • Encouraging other organisations to develop a rural focus and deliver services that are accessible;

  • Informing decision-makers of the affect that change and uncertainty is having on people who live or work in rural Powys and suggesting actions that could alleviate at least some of the problems.

It intends also to develop rural exchanges – locations where people can call for information or arrange appointments with a wide range of services – and publicise existing services throughout the County to facilitate access to appropriate support when it is needed.
